[Artspace] at Untitled is located in the historic Deep Deuce district of downtown Oklahoma City. The Deep Deuce district has a rich cultural history as it was the heart of the black jazz community in the 1920's and 30's and was home to great artists and musicians such as Ralph Waldo Ellison and jazz musician Jimmy Rushing. Before it was abandoned in the 1960's, the space housed an automotive parts supply company, a company that made Army uniforms, and various printing companies. During the 1960's, much of the district fell into disrepair and many of the original buildings were torn down to accommodate urban development. As a result, the warehouse which houses [Artspace] at Untitled is one of only a handful of original buildings that remain in the area. Before being purchased in 1995 by Laura Warriner, the warehouse sat vacant for 30 years and sustained damage in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing earlier that year. After Warriner's purchase, the property was transformed from a dilapidated industrial warehouse into an exhibition space for the visual arts called Untitled Gallery. In 2003, the Untitled Gallery became Untitled [Artspace], a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization, and in 2009, it became [Artspace] at Untitled. Untitled is a community based contemporary art center that works to fill the void of experimental, conceptual, and installation art in Oklahoma.
